The impatient generation

The most valuable thing what we have lost in our generation is patience. We can not stand in a queue if there are 10 people in front of us. We can not wait for a bus to come so we chose to buy a vehicle. We are ready to pay bribe to avoid any kind of 'waiting' in life.

We blame it on our fast lifestyle but I think it has happened more because of the way we were brought up. We struggled a lot less for getting a high paid job compared to our previous generation. And we think we are class apart hence we have got all these in our life. In the very core of our mind we feel we are very special...we are genius. So all of us feel that we deserve special treatment.

Its a generation of self-acclaimed VIPs. Its a generation of capitalists influenced by push marketing. Everyone thinks he is a born CEO and should be treated like that even if he has not reached that level yet.

But this lack of patience will have serious consequences in our society. This attitude is not only hampering our social or community life but our personal life too. There is no alternative of patience when 120 crores of population is fighting for basic necessities of life. Meditation or yoga can be a good way to bring in more patience in us. We should learn to 'wait' for our turn to come.

The new trend in Hindi Filmi Music

Bollywood has seen a great transition in last few years as long as music is concerned. Today's music directors play the role of a 'Music Contractor'. They 'build' the music and they chose their 'labours' as well. The whole Music Composition for a movie has become a turn-key project for a Music Director. That is leading to lot of compromise on the quality of the singers. Most of the directors are going for less renowned, less skilled singers who are ready to do the job at a much lesser price providing opportunity to the director to keep bigger margins.

Thanks to today's advanced technologies lot of poor qualities get hidden. Still it is a pain for real music lovers. Even today any song of Lata Mageshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Mohd. Rafi or Kishore Kumar reaches our heart because those music were pure and honest. Today's songs make us dance but goes our of our mind the moment it stops. Today's music works on our brain but hardly reaches our heart.

It is unfortunate to see singers like Sonu Nigam, Shaan or Kunal Ganjawala are earning through stage shows and we are listening to some 'very ordinary' voices in all music albums. Thankfully there is not much alternatives available for female singers hence we are getting some opportunity to listen to the voices of Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chouhan.

The whole band culture has changed the choice of music a lot to the Indian young generation. Is it good or bad - that is debatable. There is no problem in having followers of different types of music. But that does not mean that we will destroy our so rich hindi filmi music.

Our expectation from TMC

We Bengalis have the problem of becoming too happy at times. I heard from my parents that Bengalis celebrated like crazy when CPM came into power in late seventies. Today we are going through a phase where all of us are too happy with the recent change in West Bengal governance.

No doubt it has given us an impetus to be hopeful again after a miserable 30 years political disaster in West Bengal. But it is too early to judge anything at this point of time. All of us need to be practical and keep our initial expectations low.

It will not be easy for any new government (where most of the Ministers hardly have any prior experience to run a state) to successfully implement anything they want. It needs lot of administrative sense & qualities of the governing bodies to do any successful implementation. I am not saying this government can not do. I am saying that lets plan for long term. Give them enough time to plan & execute. But lets not go for short term gains to get public sentiment in favour.

We have seen in Gujarat and Bihar that how much changes have taken place after a good government has come into power. But Narendra Modi has taken 2 tenures to bring in the major changes. half of his initiatives could not get completed in his first tenure.

We are all hopeful to see a much improved Bengal but please do not expect to see and try to prove such improvement until 2014-2015.

High Court verdict on Singur Land Acquisition Act

Finally Kolkata High Court has given its verdict on Singur Land Acquisition Act. Thank God they did it on a fast track.

Now since the verdict has gone in favour of the Government its time to think about its future effects.
Should any government be allowed to release all lands being acquired by the previous government and distribute it to the original owners?

Why an industrial organization be punished because of the feud between two political parties?
If the government has the power to take back all the lands then they should do it at the cost of pating back the present owners. The rates may be debatable but where is the logic of poaching the land from an industry which has already paid to the previous government.

While it is definitely a good news for the deprived poor population it is a disastrous decision for any industry's investment. There would not be any question had the land been directly acquired by the industrial Organisation. But these lands were acquired by the previous government and were handed over to the organisation at a cost.

This case will anyway go to Supreme Court and I hope the final decision is made keeping all probable future implications in mind.

The new age school system in India

'Do you have a swimming pool in your daughter's school?' - was the first question asked by one of my colleagues when I told them that I have finally decided about my kid's school. I was rather expecting a question like 'which board the school is affiliated with' or 'Has any batch cleared the Xth standard from the school yet?' etc.

Thats how our generation has changed the concept of schools. We demand a school with swimming pool, skating rink etc. more than the quality of education or teaching in the school. This is primarily the voice of the urban rich population. This population wants to see a nice-looking school like they have seen abroad.
There is no problem in demanding good facilities in the school but the problem is we are ready to compromise on our so far successful education system at the cost of glamour & external look-n-feel. All of us in urban India are happy & proud with the fact that we are leading a very decent lifestyle due to our academic background. All of us had gone to good primary schools where our teachers tauhght the basics very right. We represent a country which stands at the top in speaking and writing English amongst the non-native English speaking countries. There lies the success of our exisiting education system.

Then why are we trying to imitate schooling system of some countries whose average individual fails miserably in the race against an average Indian?

We talk about reducing stress & pressure for kids. But are we actually making them grow freely? Every kid today goes to dance or music or skating or swimming or tennis class after their school time. Every parent wants to see their kids shine in some forum or the other but we are compromising on the easiest way of success - academics.

Its high time the urban India realizes the need to continue the existing Indian education which has placed India today where it is.
